In 1960, Jack became the youngest person to receive the American Gem Society certificate of Registered Jeweler. In 1977, Jack became a Graduate Gemologist. In 1989, Renee became a Gem Institute of America-trained Jewelry Designer. She received her Graduate Gemologist degree in 1990.
After working at Broer-Freeman Co. in downtown Toledo for 16 years, Jack opened his own store, Schatzley’s Diamond and Jewelry Design Studio, in 1979. He wanted to specialize in rare gems and custom design jewelry. The rare gems portion came easily to him but Jack was no artist. His daughter Renee, however, is an artist and works well with customers to draw the design they want that no one else will have, anywhere in the country.
The Schatzley’s love of gems and unique designs is the attraction to their store which has done almost no advertising in close to 30 years of business. Schatzley’s have built their store with satisfied customers coming back and bringing friends and family members to introduce them to a truly unique experience in purchasing jewelry.
Schatzley’s care for their customers and their customers’ jewelry like family. Over the years, it has become a privilege to be the chosen jeweler of so many families from every neighborhood in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. We are also proud to have customers in 14 other states including as far away as Florida and South Carolina. From struggling students to hard-working people, professionals and major executives, our customers come from every walk of life.
We are proud to see the children and grandchildren of our original customers are now coming into Schatzley’s to buy from the same person who sold their parents or grandparents their engagement ring. Even Renee has had the experience of selling engagement rings to kids she saw grow up.
If you have not been a customer of Schatzley’s, we invite you to stop in and get acquainted. Let us clean your jewelry while you wait at no charge and we will also give you a jar of jewelry cleaner to take home.
